In every grade we’ve discussed strategic safe searching, and how to be a responsible digital citizen while researching on the Internet. The Internet is a big place, and there are a few websites that can help narrow down your search results to those appropriate for children.
Please bookmark the following sites for safe searching:
Custom Search Engines:
You can also build your own custom search engine that only pulls from your selected web sites by going to Google.com/CSE. Test out my own custom search engine for third grade symbols and landmarks by seaching for facts about the “Statue of Liberty” in this search box:

Our students (Grade 3-6) recently participated – along with 5 million students, in 34,000 classrooms, across 167 countries, in the “Hour ofCode” program by Code.org. Through fun games and projects, students learned how to code their own computer program using the programming language JavaScript. Simple computer science activities (like the ones available on Code.org) can help nurture creativity and problem solving skills. By getting a feel for computational thinking early, students will have a foundation for success in any future career path.
Please visit Code.org to learn more about the exciting world of computer programming. I encourage everyone to try at least one of the lessons, it’s a lot of fun!
Kindergarten tries out decomposing numbers on the iPad. This project was a lot of fun and completely hands-on. Mrs. Connolly and I set up stations for the kids to walk around and choose from, and it was great fun for all.
